Link Popularity Building
What Is This Link Popularity All About?
Link popularity is a rating system assigned to a web site that is based on how many external and internal links are linking to any single web page. External links are those that come from any other web site
other than your own whereas internal links are those that come from within the same domain name. Link popularity is also based not only on the "amount" of links but on how "relevant" those links are as
well. Therefore to improve link popularity, it is not necessarily required to have a large number of links pointing to your site but rather a good number of quality links.
There are two types of external links. One is called reciprocal. This is where you agree to exchange links with another web site owner. The other type of link is a one-way link. This is simply when
another web site links to yours without requiring a link in exchange. Many times these can be obtained from free but some times the web site owner will charge a one time or re-occurring fee.
Link Popularity Is Closely Related To Successful Online Marketing
If your site is optimized well for the search engines, do you really need to worry about link popularity? That really depends on the competitive
nature of your business. For example, if you are an Arizona based landscaper and desire to attract people who are looking for landscapers in the Scottsdale area, then you are going to have a lot less competition
than a mortgage company targeting the entire United States. You will not need as many links as the mortgage company but you still certainly will want some.
Optimizing a web site for keyword phrases that are relevant to one’s business and obtaining quality external links are equally important. Think of it like a political race. A candidate can have a good
character, support relevant issues and have a great message. However, if no one endorses or votes for them, they are not going to hold office for the position they are running for. A web site is the same in
that it may have great content and be aesthetically pleasing to look at but if no one links to it, it is not going to hold a very high position in a search engine.
